SYNOPSIS
Cows graze atop rolling hills, the Säntis cable car glides towards the mountain station, and behind it, 2.5 million light years away, the Andromeda Nebula shimmers. Nestled in this picturesque landscape lies Urnäsch, once named Swiss village of the year.

In this beloved Appenzeller holiday destination, winter is drawing in: the butcher is cutting the last geraniums from their window boxes; the city council is debating the loud church bells; a local astrologer is contemplating the vastness of the universe; and the women's gymnastics team is preparing for their big performance.
‍
But when the streetlights go out at half past twelve leaving only the stars twinkling above, the night is turned over to the village youth. At the back of a barn snuff is passed around, whilst under the church tower cigarettes flicker, and in the darkness of a car park dreams of other worlds are discussed.
